Jacqueline is an Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) expert. EAL is an experiential, interactive approach to learning where participants are coached to improve and develop their well-being, emotional intelligence, life skills and achieve goals aided by the dynamic presence of the horse. Activities involve little or no riding. Emphasis is on the relationship and interactions with the horse primarily through ground-based activities and observation of horse behaviour. EAL is not a therapy but is based on a coaching model of practice. No previous horse experience is necessary.

Why horses?

Horses are naturally social and curious animals. They communicate mostly through non-verbal body language and emotional perception.  They reflect back to us what we are feeling and communicating to them. The horse responds to who you are, how you feel, what you think and what you do.  Guided interactions with the horse enable you to learn how to be a better you. Through connecting with these amazing animals, we have the opportunity to reconnect with ourselves and feel seen and heard, with acceptance and without judgment.

HER SERVICES:

Adult sessions focus on reconnecting with ourselves through animals and nature. A guided learning experience with the horse allows you to explore, for example, how changes in your behaviour, communication and boundary-setting, impact yourself and others. Through the experiential learning setting, you are supported in discovering your true self, and how to work towards achieving your goals.

Young People: These sessions focus particularly on social and emotional learning. Areas such as self-esteem, confidence, communication skills and boundary setting as well as emotional regulation, self-awareness and self-care. The embodiment of the physical experience of working with the horse allows them to integrate the learning and relate this back to their everyday lives.

Adults and young people with additional needs: I have a special interest in working with people with autism. Activities are designed for each individual based on their needs and abilities. They can typically include sensory grooming, leading and communication games and activities to encourage:

  • Relaxation and calmness

  • Fine and gross motor skills and coordination

  • Self-awareness and self-management

  • Relationship skills

  • Developing confidence

  • Self-advocacy and problem-solving
